Greetings Fellow Referees!

There have been multiple emails sent out recently from NHSA to some of you regarding submission of information for background checks to comply with Kidsafe risk management policy.  Most of these are in error due to a database issue with GotSoccer and yo may ignore for now.  I will shortly be sending out a notice to those individuals where a past background check has expired or are within 30 days of expiration.  At that time, I will also a send a link to register via as a referee only.

Now that we are halfway through the summer, thoughts of referee registration start dancing in everyone's head!  Yes, it is almost that time again to renew your referee registration for another year.  In-service sessions scheduled so far are shown under the "In-Service Training" menu.  Most of these first sessions are focused on changes to the Laws of the Game.  Also, do not forget if you attend State Referee Committee sponsored on-field training, you can receive some credit towards your annual requirements.  These sessions are also shown on the "In-Service Training" menu.  Right now there is one session planned for August 28 and 29 at the Seacoast United facility in Epping, NH.  This is being sponsored by the State Referee Committee in conjunction with the Granite State League jamboree.  This is a good way to learn some valuable on-field knowledge in a fun, no stress environment. It is never too early to get some of this required training completed to make the process easier for you as the months roll by.

In terms of registration, the preferred method of referee registration is via US Soccer Information Systems.  You will be receiving a postcard in the mail shortly from US Soccer Referee Office with your user name and password.  The site will be open for 2011 registration submission starting Monday August 2, 2010.  Using this method allows you to update your personal information, i.e. email address, so the league assignors have the most current information.  It also allows the State Referee Committee to better communicate with you on any important issues.  By using the online method, the shuffling of paper is minimized which results in less confusion and potential for lost papers or checks.  It makes the Committee more efficient to better serve you regarding training and other important issues involving referees.

As we get closer to the season, be on the lookout for more important information from the leagues and the State Referee Committee.

Another important thing on the horizon is the selection of Young Referee (Male & Female) of the Year awards.  Nominations are now being accepted by the State Youth Referee Administrator ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  To be considered for this very prestigious award, a youth referee must meet the following minimum criteria:
  1. Meet the definition of a U19 or below player
  2. Be currently registered and in good standing as a US Soccer Referee
  3. Show dedication to the art of refereeing and the game of soccer
Beyond that, factors used when selecting the award receipents are community service, school performance and similar activities.  If you believe someone is deserving of this award, please submit the individuals name along with a brief narrative on the factors mentioned above and why you feel the individual should be selected to Frank Scarito, State Youth Referee Administrator ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  The deadline for submission of nominations is Monday September 13th, 2010 at 12PM.
The State Referee Committee will review all nominations and forward along recommendations for both awards to the Executive Board of New Hampshire Soccer Association for their final approval.  Winners of the award will be honored at the NHSA Awards evening in November 2010.  Winners of the award will be considered for Region 1 Young Referee of the Year along with the potential to be selected as US Youth Soccer Young Referee of the Year.  Past winners of this award include Stephanie Thornton, James Brooks, Elizabeth Thornton, James Brooks, John Bosselman and James Cooper to name a few.
